LEGNANO – A lock of hair for the freedom of Iranian women. Activists in Legnano took to the streets in Piazza San Magno on Saturday, October 8 at 4 pm with Gasabile, the Solidarity Buying Group of the area of Legnano that joined the international protest movement in support of Iranian women fighting for their freedom. Citizens and local associations were invited.
As a sign of solidarity and sisterhood for all women who, in Iran and in the world, suffer violence and abuses detrimental to their dignity and self-determination. During the event activists symbolically cut a lock of their hair. All the collected locks were united to the analogous manifestation organised on Sunday 9 in Abbiategrasso from the association Initiative Woman, and then delivered to the Iranian Consulate of Milan.
«Impossible to just stand and watch»
«We could not just stand and read the terrible news from Iran without doing anything», said the event coordinator. «Everything that we consider to be normal for us, like a rebel hair strand on our face, in that country can cost a woman’s life. The courage of the protest against the regime is extraordinary and we want them to receive all the strength of our support».
The associations Gulliver Canegrate, Tavolo Antimafie di Canegrate, Città Invisibili di San Giorgio su Legnano, Amnesty International Legnano, Anpi Parabiago, Nabad Parabiago and many others joined the event.
