GALLARATE – The flames flared up in just a few moments and some people passing by filmed the scene and then posted the video on social media (as shown in the photo above). The fire broke out in the outdoor seating area of a well-known restaurant in the centre of Gallarate, in Piazza Libertà.
Flames in the city centre
The episode dates back to the night of Sunday, August 14, well after the restaurant’s closing time. The flames have affected one of the large parasols of the outdoor seating area of the restaurant and the fire caused widespread damage to the decor. Fortunately it was a small fire, immediately tamed before it could affect the structures and neighbouring homes.
It is still unknown where the fire originated from. It could have been an act of vandalism or the consequence of an imprudent act, such as throwing a lit cigarette butt. The numerous cameras in the area could help to clarify what happened.
