GOLASECCA – The bad weather experienced in the last weeks seems to have given some relief to Lake Maggiore, which has been in a climatic crisis due to the drought emergency that has lasted months. Currently, the Verbano and Ticino river system is recording lake levels at -0.12 m on the hydrometric zero in Sesto Calende and outflows of 61.5 mc/sec and steadily increasing inflows. Therefore, from August 18 the Ticino Consortium has ordered an increase in the outflow from the Miorina dam of about 100 mc/ sec.

Increased capacity

The consortium canals will therefore be affected by a consequent increase in flow aimed at providing irrigation supplies to rice crops irrigated by the Villoresi Canal and the Western Navigli. In particular, the Villoresi Canal goes from 4.5 to 11.5 mc/s, while the Naviglio Grande goes from 14.5 to 29.5 mc/s and from August 19 it has been increased to 45 mc/s. As for the Naviglio Martesana, an increase from 6.4 to 8.0 mc/s was ordered on August 16. No further increases are expected soon.
