GOLASECCA – Three hectares of wood completely destroyed. Last August 13 a fire broke out in Golasecca, in the area near the Alzaia del Ticino. The flames have been tamed and the process of land reclamation is underway and it will continue in the following days.
The fire
In the night of August 13 the flames of a fire broke out in a portion of wood of about three hectares. 20 people from the Parco del Ticino Forest Fire Fighting Department arrived on the spot with 7 vehicles and rescue teams from Sesto Calende, Golasecca-Vergiate, Turbigo and Arsago. The fire was approaching some houses, but the rescuers were able to tame the flames before that. The teams of volunteers worked closely with the Fire Brigade, but the difficult terrain of the place created obstacles for them.
The land reclamation
From the early hours of the morning, 8 teams have been activated to finish the extinguishing works and the land reclamation. The Ticino Park issued a statement saying: «Once again the most heartfelt and sincere thanks to the volunteers who, even in the middle of the month of August, intervened promptly to defend our territory».
