VARESE – After the summer, Fridays for Future Varese have resumed their activities. The movement has organised three information banquets for the month of September, inviting citizens ahead of the elections to discuss climate change issues. They are also asking politicians to embrace the climate agenda of FFF. On September 23 there will be a global strike on this subject.

A difficult summer

«Perhaps this summer it has been a little more difficult to forget about the problem of climate change: the disaster on the Marmolada has shocked everyone», say Fridays for Future Varese. The issue also concerns the area of Varese, with the effects of the prolonged drought. In our province some municipalities have been forced to ‘turn the taps off’ at night because of the lack of water. And the ferries on Lake Maggiore, the largest of the seven lakes of our territory, were not able to stop at some ports because of the low water levels».

Just before elections

«In September everyone goes back to their routines, but this year there is another important commitment: the elections. But our question is: have the parties given the right importance to the climate emergency in their programs? Are we sure that the problem of climate change, and all the socio-economic implications it entails, is among the priorities of our politicians? We want to talk about it with all of you». The information banquets will therefore have the purpose of exchanging views on the topic with all the people of Varese. There will be three dates in the next month: Saturday, September 3 in Street Marcobi from 18; Friday, September 9 in Square Monte Grappa from 17; Saturday, September 17 in Square Giovine Italia from 18.

The climate agenda

The banquets will also be an opportunity to raise awareness of the climate agenda created by Fridays for Future Italy, structured in 5 points to address the immediate climate and social crisis. «We will take to the streets on September 23 with these requests, just before the elections, to ask for a real and immediate response from politicians. It does not matter who wins, it matters who acts».
